So I bit the bullet and started on the workout modules yesterday in Nerd Fitness Academy. I probably should have started this part of my journey before now as I’ve been a member for over a month, but I’m a bit slow at things lately. I read all the pre-workout articles and clicked on the benchmark test. Really, Mandie… You should know better! I really do know better, I just wasn’t thinking of the benchmark test as a workout, so I broke one of the cardinal rules; I didn’t stretch or warm-up first. Note to anyone thinking about going through the Nerd Fitness Academy, stretch and warm-up before doing the benchmark test. No, seriously. Do it.
After pushing myself – and realizing how much my fitness level has decreased over the last couple of years – I was placed in level 2. Not bad considering I haven’t worked out in a couple of years. I then proceeded to map out my fitness, business, writing, meditation and household plan for the next two weeks. Yes, I plan and make lists. Yes, I know it’s mildly crazy to get as detailed as I do. It’s one of my awesome quirks. So I’ve got everything worked out and in my calendar for the next two weeks. I’ve got my accountability calendar set up and ready for stickers (I LOVE STICKERS!). I’ve got my loot in mind for completing my two week goal. I am SO ready to DO this!
I take myself up the stairs to start my awesome dinner plan for when Oogachaka comes home from work. Thing is, I keep remembering things downstairs I should have brought up with me. Friends, we have a 3 story house. Well, 4 if you count the rooftop deck, but it’s summer in the desert. The kitchen, living and dining rooms are on the third floor. Grocery day is a workout all on its own. Now that I work at home, I am constantly going up and down the stairs several times a day. The third trip down to my office to grab something, I slipped on the stairs and slid about halfway down that first mini flight of stairs. I feel like I’ve pulled every muscle in my left side, and my right forearm has a giant bruise from coming down quite hard on the corner of that first step. Luckily, I didn’t hit my head and I didn’t break anything, but working out is definitely not an option today. Especially considering how many squats are supposed to be in my first workout. I’m a bit bummed, but I definitely don’t want to run the risk of making it worse.
Instead of wallowing in despair and throwing my hands up in defeat, though, I’m going to take myself for a walk today before diving into my first Nerd Fitness Yoga routine tomorrow. I figure keeping my muscles warm and stretched out is much better than curling up in bed with a book and letting them stew in their own soreness. Hopefully I’ll be feeling good enough for workout 2B on Wednesday. Perhaps I’ll catch some Pokemon today, because I’m definitely not ready to be running from zombies!
Update: So I downloaded Pokemon Go! on my phone. I’m still not completely sure how everything works, but I very much understand how this game could become an addiction. I caught several Pokemon (those bat things are HARD) and lots of sun, and only came home because my phone and I were overheating, and the battery on my phone was down to 13%. On the plus side, I felt warmed up enough to do some stretching and then completed workout 2A from Nerd Fitness Academy. Granted, I didn’t squat as low as I normally would, but I completely all three rounds of exercises and the three rounds of the finishing move. I am now ready to spend some down time working on my word count and perhaps taking a nap. Happy Monday!
